Introduction by Nissa Darbonne, Executive Editor, Oil and Gas Investor

  • "This is almost divine intervention," Andrew Littlefair, president and chief executive of Clean Energy Fuels Corp., says of the abundance of natural gas U.S. producers have proven to produce economically within the U.S.
  • "What can 7 Tcf of natural gas (a year) displace?" One million U.S. heavy-duty trucks in service, or about 40% of those at work right now, plus 30- to 50 million light-duty vehicles, or about 28% on the road today.
  • Natural gas is more efficient. It is 130 octane-right out of the ground. Higher, if it is compressed. One million Btu of natural gas is the energy equivalent of 8 gallons of gasoline.
  • And, demand is real: Clean Energy Fuels' customers pumped 75 million gallons of CNG and LNG in 2008 from more than 175 fueling stations.
