Advancements in Proven Shale Plays

Advancements in Proven Shale PlaysOur speakers address consolidation in the Barnett and other mature shales, bringing the Fayetteville into sales; and the public's view of shale activity.

Moderated by Leslie Haines, Editor-in-Chief, Oil and Gas Investor

  • "The Fayetteville shale play in northwestern Arkansas is far from mature," says Steven L. Mueller, president and chief operating officer, Southwestern Energy Co. "Pure development isn't for another two years, at least, in this field."
  • As gas prices are dropping, Carrizo Oil & Gas Inc. would prefer to defer its drilling. "But we have operational and bank considerations, and Wall Street considerations, and rig contracts and leases to hold," says Chip Johnson, president and chief executive. Carrizo makes 80 MMcfe/d from its Barnett acreage.
  • Major concerns that surround shale-gas drilling include worries over increased truck traffic and the amount of fresh water used, says Dr. Gene Theodori, professor, department of sociology, Sam Houston State University.
