With strong positions in the Haynesville and Fayetteville shales and a market-leading position in the emerging Eagle Ford shale, a solid hedge position and strong liquidity, Petrohawk Energy is poised for growth in 2009. Here, COO Stoneburner shares Petrohawk's outlook for the coming year.

Although it has been said that Haynesville blowouts are impossible, "that's just not true," says Richard K. Stoneburner, executive vice president and chief operating officer, Petrohawk Energy Corp. The high-pressure/high-temperature nature of the play can trigger accidents.

Lessons learned in the Haynesville include fracing with slickwater instead of ceramic proppant or gel, getting in before the land rush and executing the plan. "We can't let a small window of low prices affect how we do business," he says.

Petrohawk plans to spend some 2009 capital on pipeline infrastructure to support its Haynesville strategy.
